How Often Should I Revalue My Card Collection?

Most collectors value their collection once — when they buy insurance or get curious — and never again. In a market that moves daily, that is a problem. Here is the right cadence.

Why periodic falls short

An annual or one-time appraisal captures a single moment. Between checks, a market run-up leaves you underinsured, and a dip leaves you overpaying premium. The longer between revaluations, the larger the blind spot.

The right cadence

At minimum, revalue before renewing insurance, before selling, and after any major market move in your categories. For an active collection, continuous is better than periodic — the value should track the market, not lag it.

Make it automatic

Slabline re-pulls comparable sales continuously, so your collection total and insurance schedule stay current without manual appraisals — and it flags value drift the moment your coverage falls behind.
