The first official card
A rookie card (RC) is a player’s first card issued in a major licensed set, usually from their first professional season. Many sets mark them with an "RC" logo. Pre-rookie or amateur cards are a separate category.
Why they command a premium
Rookie cards are tied to the start of a career and carry the most collector demand and nostalgia, so they typically lead a player’s market. The flagship rookie of a star can dwarf their later cards.
Value it precisely
Because rookies, parallels, and grades all price differently, value the exact card you hold. Slabline prices each from real comps at its specific grade, so a rookie’s value reflects its true market, not an average.
