Inserted loose into Cracker Jack boxes in 1914, this 144-card set is prized for its vivid red backgrounds and its roster of Federal League players found nowhere else. Cards were exposed to the snack's oil and sugar, so unstained examples command enormous premiums.
The 1915 sequel expanded to 176 cards and, unlike the 1914 issue, could be ordered as a complete set by mail — which is why it survives in somewhat better condition. Shares the iconic red-background design with stars including Ty Cobb, Walter Johnson, and Joe Jackson.
