Gum Incorporated's debut baseball issue: 162 cards with clean black-and-white photography that broke from the painted styles of the 1930s. Ted Williams' rookie card is its centerpiece.
The largest of the three Play Ball sets at 240 cards, notable for including retired greats alongside active players — its Joe Jackson card is the only major gum-card issue of the banned star. Joe DiMaggio and Ted Williams headline the active roster.
Gum Inc.'s final pre-war set: 72 cards that added color to the 1940 photography, producing some of the most attractive cards of the era. Production ended with America's entry into World War II, making it a natural bookend to the pre-war hobby.
