The short story
Slabline is made by Hobby Smart Case, Inc. — the team behind Hobby Smart Cases, display and protection cases for collectors. Years of building physical protection for collections kept surfacing the same conversation: collectors knew their cards were valuable, but almost none could say what the collection was actually worth today, whether it was insured for anything close to that number, or what they’d recover if the worst happened.
Slabline is the software half of that idea. Enter a cert number and it values the slab from real comparable sales — then goes where price trackers stop: it scores how well you’re protecting what you own. Think of the Slabline Score™ like a credit score for your collection — it rates your exposure, not your cards.
It’s run by Brian Katz, founder of Hobby Smart Cases and a collector himself. Small team, real comps, no venture-scale promises — just the tool we wished existed every time someone asked us “so… is your collection insured?”
Real comps only
Every value comes from recorded sales — eBay, Heritage, Goldin, PWCC — never list prices or guesses. When we don’t have real data, we say so.
Protection, scored
Insurance, concentration, storage, liquidity, provenance — weighted into one 0–1000 Slabline Score™, with the factors shown, never a black box.
Free to start, forever
Up to 25 cards free with no account tricks. Paid plans add the broker-ready schedule and weekly brief — the parts that talk to your insurer.
How the numbers work
We publish the whole approach — data sources, factor weights, score bands, and the limitations — on the methodology page. If you’re the kind of collector who checks the math, start there.
